Not showing on Google Maps after verification? 7 checks to get your business found

If your business isn't showing on Google Maps after verification, it's usually down to timing (Google says new businesses can take up to a month to appear in rankings), a verification that didn't fully complete, or a profile that exists but isn't yet ranking for the searches you're testing. Work through the seven checks below in order.

Verified doesn't mean ranking

Verification tells Google you're allowed to manage the profile. It doesn't move you up the results. Google is clear there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. So once you're verified, the question becomes: is the profile visible at all, and if so, why isn't it ranking?

1. Check verification actually finished

Google says verification reviews can take up to five working days. If the "Get verified" button has reappeared on your profile, it means Google couldn't completely verify your business and you'll need to try again.

2. Give it time

Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear, and that when you edit your business info, changes can take up to three days to show.

3. Search your exact name and town

Google suggests finding your profile by searching your business name and city. If you appear for that, your listing is live and the issue is ranking, not visibility.

4. Look for a duplicate

If an older listing for your business exists, one of them may be treated as a duplicate, and Google says a duplicate won't show on Google Search or Maps.

5. Check for a suspension notice

A suspended profile won't show to other users until the issue is resolved. Check the Google account you manage it from for a notification, and use the appeal process if it's wrong.

6. Review your category and service areas

The wrong primary category or a service area that doesn't cover where you're searching from will keep you out of results. Google asks you to choose the most specific categories and to be as specific and accurate as possible with service areas.

7. Build prominence

If all of the above is fine, the gap is prominence: Google says it's based on how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have. That's ongoing work, not a one-off fix.

Mistakes that make it worse

  • Creating a second profile. Google's appeal guidance says plainly: do not create a new Business Profile for the same business. A second one is likely to be treated as a duplicate.
  • Stuffing your name with keywords. Google's guidelines say unnecessary information in your business name could result in suspension.
  • Using a virtual office address. Google says a rented address you don't operate from isn't eligible for a Business Profile.
  • Constant edits. Each change goes through review. Make your changes, then give them time.

When to get help

Checks 1 to 6 are mostly admin. Check 7 is where steady, month-by-month work comes in: reviews, genuine local links, and website pages that back up your profile. If you'd rather hand that over, ask us about the Managed Site Improvement Package.
