Affordable doesn't mean cheap
The cheapest SEO is often the most expensive in the end: junk links, copied town pages and reports nobody reads. Affordable SEO is the opposite. It puts a modest budget into the handful of things that move a plumbing business up in local results, and leaves out the rest. Here's where that budget should go, in order.
1. Your Google Business Profile
For most plumbers this is where the calls come from. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local results. That means the right primary category, your services listed, opening hours and real photos of real jobs.
2. Service area, not your home address
Most plumbers work from home. Google's guidelines use a plumber as the example: if you run your business from your residential address, clear the address from your Business Profile and set a service area instead.
3. One clear page per main job
Boiler repairs, bathroom installs, leaks and blocked drains are searched differently. A page for each, written in plain English, helps Google match you to the right search and helps the customer pick up the phone.
4. Pages for the towns you want more work in
Pick the places you actually want to drive to. Make each page genuinely about that area, not a copy with the town name swapped.
5. Consistent listings
Same business name, phone number and area across the directories you're on. Google also says it can pick up information about your business from mentions throughout the web, so they should agree.
6. Reviews, asked for honestly
Send a review link or QR code after each job. Google recommends asking with a Google link or QR code and says offering incentives for reviews is strictly prohibited.
7. A few genuine local links
Links from your merchants' installer lists, a local club you support or a genuine local news story beat a hundred bought links. Google calls buying ranking links link spam.
A sensible order to do it in
If budget is tight, do it in this order: profile first, then your main service pages, then reviews, then town pages, then links. The profile is the quickest to improve and is where many plumbing calls start. Service pages back it up. Reviews build trust with every job you finish. Town pages and links take longer but compound over time.
Doing it in this order means the money you spend early is working on the things most likely to bring a call.
What to cut to keep it affordable
- Social media posting packages that don't bring enquiries.
- Large batches of near-identical town pages.
- Monthly reports with no mention of calls or map visibility.
- Any "guaranteed ranking". Google says no one can guarantee a number one ranking.

Common questions
What is affordable SEO for plumbers?
It's SEO focused on the few things that bring local calls: your Google Business Profile, clear service and town pages, consistent listings, honest reviews and genuine local links, with no spend on things you can't measure.
Should a plumber show their home address on Google?
No, if customers don't come to you. Google's guidelines use a plumber as the example and say to clear a residential address and set a service area instead.
How do I know if SEO is worth it for my plumbing business?
Compare the monthly cost with the profit on a typical job. If one or two extra jobs a month cover it, it's in a sensible place.
How much is your package?
£99 a month. No contract, cancel anytime. Managed Site Improvement Package: we improve your website and Google profile every month.
